Musical Fidelity Elektra E10 AmplifierThe full amplifier ELEKTRA E10 by a British company MUSICAL FIDELITY, with its peculiar English design, represents the HIGH END typical direction which includes using high-quality components, connectors with gilding, and maximum simplicity combined with ability to reach high parameters and high sound quality. There are only two big switchers on a black lacquered surface of the front panel which are volume switcher and input selector. The amplifier is pretty simple on the inside as well, with its toroidal power transformer, high-quality capacitors and FETs on the output. A potential user should take that into account if willing to listen sonic signals not distorted by tuning. LEDs built in the switchers are double-functioned - they indicate the volume switching-on, the volume level and an input chosen. There are six sonic sources possible to connect, including two recorders, and its also possible to connect a sound processing device such as an equalizer. There are no balance or tone circuits in this amplifier, so that it is always kind of working in a DIRECT mode. A headphone jack is placed on the sidewall of the device which is traditional for the company products, and quite handy, gilded screw connectors allow to connect a wire up to 4 mm in diameter. The amplifier can work only with one pair of audio speakers. The maximum output power, measured, occurred to be lower than was declared - with two channels working, the amplifier reached a power of 29W with an 8 ohm resistance, opposed to the declared 40W. Despite of this, as a true representative of the HIGH END direction, the amplifier showed a clear, smooth sound with a CD-player working. We should also warn the future E10 owners that they should pay special attention to the acoustics they choose. as there weren't enough bass with some of the speakers in practice. |
