Cerwin-Vega! LW-15x Subwoofer

LW15x is half times more volume than LW-12x, and the huge driver is already fully "occupied" the faceplate of subwoofer. The weight is almost thirty three kilograms! In comparison with LW-12x the larger representative has additional useful functions: particularly subwoofer input with attenuator is provided (it increases signal level on 3 dB from AV receiver - sometimes it is very useful); powerful "speaker" terminals are installed here, it is freed now from abundance of bass on low-voltage (linear) outputs, and the cutoff frequency of output filter, at the same time, can vary (40 and 80 Hz) depending on low-frequency capabilities of the front pair.

The results of listening and analysis of measurement data make you think that the developers aimed to maximally realize an "impact" potential of low-frequency electrodynamic system, occasionally compensating frequent lack of the dynamics of upper bass in shelf satellites. It seemed that in LW-15x it is more reasonable to give high-voltage signal from a receiver. It is not surprising that the sound of LW-12x and LW-15x is very similar: good response to fast changes of input signal. We liked scenes with shootings and explosions: low-frequency backing of gun burst was characterized by a good detailing and closeness to the manner of original. The difference, although not too striking, appears on the moments related to the release of big amount of significantly low-frequency energy - the elder subwoofer is more powerful and convictive in presentation of disasters. Double-bass part is spectacular with keeping of comfortable energy mode.

LW-15x is a good variant of "theatrical" low-frequency system for work together with front speaker system, uncharged by wide bass capabilities; with floor satellites you will need to experiment with filtrating of signal and settings. The subwoofer has very high energy potential, which you can hardly exhaust to the bottom in conditions of typical city apartment, but store is no sore.
