Paradigm PDR-12 SubwooferParadigm PDR-12 subwoofer has a 12-inch driver with a carbon fiber-reinforced composite diffuser and a powerful magnetic system. The diameter of the voice coil is 51 mm. The Canadian giant has an unusually powerful built-in amplifier for its category, which is able to give short-term power up to 450 W! In addition, it is equipped with a Soft Clipping system, which reduces distortion at signal peaks. As for the technical features, we should note the dual rear port of the bass-reflex - this solution reduces the eddy air flows and, accordingly, unwanted side-tones. In the subwoofer preamplifier there are only the most necessary controls for tuning, but there are both linear and high-level inputs. It seemed somewhat strange to me that there was no power switch; only a small indicator at the bottom of the front panel reminds of the presence of power in the unit. The finishing and assembly of individual components were done at a high level, causing no complaints about this part. Except that the grill is not removable. Paradigm PDR-12 immediately amazed by very powerful pitch of the deepest bass. At the same time, the reproduction is well articulated, and the intelligibility of the lowest frequencies is high. Also there are disadvantages that I just have to mention. In phonograms with very dense low-frequency spectrum light hull sounds and some confusion that interfere with the reproducible reproducing bass line appear. The attack is transferred a bit slowly, the blows of kick are not as real as we would like, due to some restrictions of the dynamics. But when you slightly narrow the working band of the subwoofer, these features are no longer felt. Home cinema is the true element of the Canadian hero. A variety of explosions, shots and other LFE effects are very true. Reproduction differs by enviable dynamics, quite comparable with the action on the screen. I would recommend this subwoofer to a lover of modern spectacular cinema, who has a treat to listen to his favorite music. |
