MJ Acoustics Reference 150 MkII Subwoofer

Despite of the small size of the case, an impressive 12-inch woofer fits in Reference 150 mkII subwoofer. It works in a closed space, due to which excellent impulse response is provided. The amplifier with a rated power of 150W with an output stage on field transistors operates also in AB class. Apparently, the engineers of the British company do not trust the digital circuitry too much. The control of playback parameters is given to an advanced DSP processor, through which all the necessary settings are made, and information about them is displayed on an electronic display. Also the function of the processor includes protection against unwanted resonances, an algorithm which the developers called Dynamic Intelligent Protection. A separate adjustment of the cutoff frequency is provided for each of the available types of inputs, both linear and acoustic. This will be useful, for example, when connecting a subwoofer to a stereo system and a home theater at the same time. Speaking about the indisputable facilities, we note a fairly convenient remote control that allows you to distantly configure the subwoofer, located directly at the listening position.

English subwoofer is not the loudest, but amazingly accurate in sound. The advantages of MJ Acoustics Refrence 150 mkII include the most truthful bass attack, an enviable reaction rate and overall transparency. The depth of the lower frequency range in this case looks sufficient for typical rooms. When the band is too wide, the sound is somewhat coarsened, and the attack slows down. During the experiments the installation of a crossover in the area of 85 - 90 Hz seemed to be optimal.
