Castle Compact Subwoofer

Castle subwoofer is compact and beautifully finished with natural veneer. A long-stroke driver with a paper membrane is installed in almost a cubic case. Two bass-reflex ports are placed at the bottom. The body is made of thick (18 mm) MDF plates and supplemented with internal annular stiffeners, reducing parasitic resonances. The nominal power of the amplifier is small - 150 watts. The Time Power Sense Limiter circuit, a "soft" output power limiter, does not allow dangerous overloads. There is also an automatic mode in which the subwoofer "wakes up" when a signal arrives at any of the inputs. The active crossover's tuning is stepped in a rather narrow range of 35 - 85 Hz with a step of 10 Hz. The phase changes with a 0/180 degree switch. And in most cases a simple inversion is quite enough. There is no separate LFE input, but other terminals, linear and high-level, are present.

To optimize the sound, the manufacturer recommends installing a subwoofer about 20 centimeters from the wall, which we did. After a brief adjustment, the Castle Compact subwoofer demonstrated a neat and moderately dynamic sound with high informativeness in the main working spectrum. Closer to the lower border, the articulation is slightly weakened, but this only appears in the corresponding records with extremely low bass. The shock wave in cinema effects is transmitted powerfully and confidently. For its price the subwoofer performs main functions flawlessly.
