Monitor Audio Radius R90HD Bookshelf speakers

The British Monitor Audio has recently conducted a very thorough modernization of Radius line due to the use of advanced drivers. Novelties got HD index and came closer by sound to Silver series, but, as before, are positioned as a designer.

Monitor Audio Radius R90HD are miniature monitors with concise design and beautiful grills. Acoustic design is bass-reflex, placed to the back. The branded inch tweeter with gilt aluminum dome and very lightweight sound coil answers for playing of HF. Mid and lower cases are played by 10-cm (4") MMP II head, the diffuser of which is stamped under high pressure from polypropylene with additives of metallic participles. The latter give great stiffness, "erode" internal resonance and at the same time make mid-bass similar to traditional silver heads of Monitor Audio.

We liked tonal balance very much. In middle and high bands there is no coloring (Radius are really similar to Silver by this criteria), in basses we will note only slight low-frequency disturbances caused by the work of bass-reflex. Despite of small sizes, R90HD freely and easily play lower case. And it not only exists in them, but also is well-structured. We remembered sound resolution in the most responsible part most of all - detailing of transfer of the middle is so high that these speaker systems can be placed on a par with the best systems of High End class. The only limitation is increased distance of installation. Monitor Audio Radius R90HD sounds in the very near field too intrusively. Illusion of scaling - getting "big" sound from small-sized speaker systems - is achieved only when the speakers are spaced from the listening point on 120-150 cm (47-59") and stereo base does not exceed 1 meter (39").
