Snell Acoustics K7 Bookshelf speakersSnell K7 are built on high-end drivers of the Norwegian company SEAS - 25-mm tweeters with a silk dome and 13-cm mid-woofers impregnated with a special cellulose composition. It's even surprising that such high-quality drivers found their place in loudspeakers of this price range. K7 bodies are made by hand and can be easily called monolithic. The upper panel and the base are cast from metal, and the side walls are made of solid wood with massive thickness. The final result guarantees the complete absence of hull voices at any volume level. Particular attention in the development of this model was given to the separation filter, the elements of which were matched with a minimum scatter of characteristics. Acoustic design is the back bass reflex port. To ensure optimum performance in various installation options, the back panel has a selector for adjusting the return in the lower range. The acoustical terminals are screw and of high quality, allowing two-wire switching options with an amplifier. Perhaps, these are the best loudspeakers among competitors in terms of transfer of low frequencies (we are talking about their quality, not quantity). The relief and attack are transmitted as accurately as it is generally possible in this and also much higher price segment. Against this background, the rest of the spectrum is perceived to be not so linear. If we can speak about mid frequencies only to a superlative degree, then as for the upper range we have to be more restrained. Everything is good with detailing in Shell, even more - thanks to the use of excellent tweeter, even seemingly secondary sounds are clearly audible. However, the existing local nonlinearity (around 13 kHz) sometimes adds excessive rigidity and even aggressiveness to the general sound, which can be defeated to some extent by a small turn of the speakers outside. The dynamic capabilities of Snell K7 allow them to be quite universal in genres. Any claims on the localization of sound images in space did not arise. And in other respects there were not unpleasant surprises from K7. |
