B&W DM303 Bookshelf speakersThere is lots of unusual in B&W DM303 speaker system. Faceplate is entirely cast of non-resonant polypropylene. The tweeter with metallic dome is "loaded" on "acoustic tube" - such solution was firstly applied in top systems - B&W Nautilus. The diffuser of LF/MF driver, despite of a decent 175-mm caliber, is almost weightless, because it is molded of fiberglass. By the way, there was he reason to note this model, when DM303 got the award from European Imaging And Sound Association. The sound of EISA nominees causes conflicting emotions. Everything is alright with dynamics and linearity, if we don't take not sufficiently filled lower case into account. Experts call such smooth sound "grey" - in good sense, of course, meaning the lack of coloring. Only at low volume high frequencies sound softly and at the levels close to maximal the sound is not naughty by purity. But under normal conditions of listening vocal, strings, "copper" are conveyed with exemplary clarity. We also liked spatial characteristics - stage is deep, images are not blurred. |
