Monitor Audio Silver 100 Bookshelf speakersClassical two-way Monitor Audio Silver 100 loudspeaker is equipped with two drivers: 25-mm tweeter and 203-mm MF/LF-driver. Both diffusers are made of the branded C-Cam material (aluminum-magnesium alloy, covered with ceramics). Tweeter still has a prefix "gold" in all marketing materials of the company. However, there is no a milligram of gold for many years - this is a tribute to the tradition. The tweeter is seriously redesigned in comparison with previous generation; in addition, it is closed by a metal plate with peculiar holes. MF/LF-driver has not changed visually too much, except perhaps it has now grey-sliver hue - apparently, so that it shines less though the protective grill, which is fixed on the magnets. The body is made of 20-mm MDF plates and its internal structure was seriously redesigned. In Monitor Audio Silver 100 there is another classical proprietary technology -c HiVe II - a special coating of bass-reflex port (on the back wall). Thus, air stream from the port is curled and accelerated, the resistance to the stream and, consequently, noise from the port itself are minimized. The listening was in the system, consisting of H160 amplifier and Mohican CD-player. I turned on beautiful female voice of Maggie Reilly and literally disappeared - the sound sparked with details, mind-blowing voice of the singer flew up to the ceiling and stage seemed to move apart the walls of the room. The sound has very much air, feed is energetic, too bright perhaps, but really exciting. I changed CDs to album consisting of blues songs - Silver 100 cheerfully convey literally any composition. These are very energetic loudspeakers, maybe not 100% neutral like studio monitors, but their sound makes you tingle into rhythm. Because the main task of the manufacturer is that the music lover appreciates sound, not speaker system. Monitor Audio Silver 100 is more interesting than its predecessor. The loudspeakers sound more dynamic, brighter and more cheerful. High frequencies of the novelty even jingle in good sense in comparison with the previous model, bass is deeper, structured better and the sound stage is wider. I'm not trying to belittle the merits of Silver models from the previous generation, but the difference in sound is obvious. This is really a new level. |
